Storage Administrator - Edmonton

The Storage Administrator's role is to plan, design, sustain, and performance-tune storage environments across the organization, while ensuring high levels of data quality and availability. This individual is also responsible to ensure storage provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals and objectives and in alignment with corporate data management best practices. Responsibilities: - Day to day management of Storage frames including HP XP24/20/12/10K, EVA8000 and NetApp 3160's - Implementation of storage architectures based on capacity planning analysis and other needs assessments. - Planning, monitoring, repairing, reporting and other day-to-day tasks associated with maintaining storage resources in an optimal fashion. - Working with the Team lead, IT Managed operations to define and adhere to service level agreements with end-users regarding storage allocations, limitations, and availability. - Ensure that information storage and retention measures and equipment adhere to all applicable regulations [particularly SOX]. - Working with the Team lead, IT Managed Operations to implement redundant storage strategies and policies for disaster recovery and archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data and stored data assets [e.g., images, CAD drawings etc.]. - Respond to and resolve storage access problems, retrieval issues, storage device status, and other issues. - Adhere to ITIL procedures for storage change management, CMDB accuracy, problem management and incident management. - Install and configure new and existing storage devices and corresponding software. - Creation of logical volumes, logical unit number (LUN) masking and LUN binding, and zoning to enforce security, reliability and availability. - Allocate storage to end-users and development teams based on established departmental requirements and available disk space. - Monitor and troubleshoot storage device status. Ideal Candidate: - College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science or a related discipline and/or 2-5 years equivalent work experience. - Strong understanding of storage architecture design techniques, theories, principles, and practices. - Excellent knowledge of SAN, NAS, RAID, SCSI, and Fibre Channel technologies. - Solid experience with developing backup and restore procedures. - Experience working with clustered systems would be considered an asset. - Hands-on storage management and troubleshooting experience.
